Since 1974, Concord Feminist Health Center (CFHC) has been a leader and model for protecting and expanding women’s reproductive freedoms and rights.  Our nonprofit clinic provides abortion and gynecological services with professionalism, compassion and respect for women of all ages, races and socio-economic backgrounds.

Why volunteer at CFHC?
Nothing is more rewarding than giving back to your community.  From high school students to retirees, our volunteers selflessly dedicate countless hours and energy each year.  By becoming a volunteer CFHC, you gain invaluable experience and skills.

Abortion is an emotionally-charged and complex issue in our country.  During your time with us, you will deepen your understanding of the real life experiences and challenges women and their loved ones face when they dealing with an untimely or unplanned pregnancy.  Regardless of the nature of the volunteer assignment, you will be playing a vital role in the provision of high quality, affordable and accessible reproductive care for women in New Hampshire.

What can I expect as a CFHC volunteer?

We carefully screen and train all volunteers.  In order to provide assignments that are meaningful, we look for individuals who will make a firm commitment to CFHC and who will perform their assignments reliably and consistently. We have discovered that the more a volunteer puts into her/his assignment, the more that individual gains. You have the right to expect:

·         Orientation to the organization

·         Responsibilities suited to your interests and abilities

·         Initial and ongoing training from skilled and professional staff

·         Availability of staff to answer questions and address concerns

·         Staff to listen to your honest feedback

As a volunteer at CFHC we ask you to:

·         Support CFHC’s mission and vision

·         Complete required orientation and training

·         Strictly adhere to our protocols and procedures at all times

·         Check in with staff whenever you have a question or concern

·         Make a commitment to a specified term of service  and be responsible for carrying out your assignments

·         Provide CFHC staff with honest feedback about the volunteer program

Requirements

We ask our volunteers to make a time commitment which is negotiated based on type and complexity of assignment.  In general, we require our volunteers be at least 17 years old (junior/senior in high school) and have had tuberculosis and rubella immunization.

Volunteer Opportunities

CFHC offers a number of interesting and challenging opportunities. There are both short-term and long-term assignments available in several areas of our organization.  Our volunteer tasks vary throughout the year, but in general, our needs are in the following areas:

Clerical/Office Volunteer - Volunteers are needed to work with CFHC staff assisting them with general office work which may include: data entry, filing, typing, updating referral lists, confirming appointments, photocopying and collating, etc.  Hours and assignments will be determined by our needs and the volunteer’s skills and availability. No previous office experience necessary, but qualified applicants will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, be highly organized and demonstrate the ability to work independently after successful completion of training.

Medical Interpretation - NH is experiencing a growing population of racial and ethnic minority groups for whom English is not their native language.  CFHC seeks to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate health services and help to eliminate some of the barriers non-English speaking refugees and immigrants must face.   As a volunteer interpreter, you could help translate our written materials and/or serve as an interpreter for women needing support through their abortion or gynecological appointments.   Fluency in a foreign language, including medical terminology, is required.

Maintenance and Grounds Keeping - Volunteers assist with general building and grounds maintenance including garden upkeep, raking, painting, facility cleaning and organizing, etc. No specific skills required other than a cheerful willingness to work odd jobs and get dirty with us!

Graphic Design/Marketing - We are always looking for seasoned graphic designers to help us promote CFHC’s important work and services.  These volunteers assist staff in the creation of print materials such as brochures, flyers, newsletters, event invitations and advertisements. Experience with web design and content management is also a valuable asset to us.  Project timelines may vary, but on average each project lasts about 1-2 months.  This opportunity is flexible enough that volunteers may work around the schedule of a full-time job or school.  Two or more years experience in graphic design is ideal. In this role, you must have solid experience with print and/or web design, graphics production and be familiar with relevant design and production software (i.e. Adobe programs such as Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.).

Miscellaneous, time-limited projects – Volunteers are needed from time-to-time in many other areas of the organization, such as:  Fundraising (help with appeal letters, special events, donor cultivation, prospect research, etc.), Grassroots Advocacy (work with staff to write letters to the Editor, solicit support from legislators and public officials, staff resource tables, etc.), Medical Services (create and administer surveys of clients, assist with reproductive health research to improve current services and launch new services, etc.).

Your volunteer participation can make a critical difference to our organization and to the women and families we serve.  To learn more about how you can help, send us an email volunteer@feministhealth.org or call us at (603) 224-3251.
